While making cola chicken wings, I found I had some leftover pineapple juice. I thought, pineapple juice is sweet and sour, so it should work. I gave it a try, and it was a huge success! You should try it too.

Steps for making a "heretical" version of cola chicken wings

Chicken drumsticks are best made from chilled chicken; if frozen, thaw them first. This was my second time making this, and I happened to have chicken legs at home, so I cooked them together. After trying it, I wouldn't recommend it; chicken legs are large and drumsticks are small, so they can't cook together and should be cooked separately.

Wipe away the moisture with kitchen paper.

Place the chicken wings in a large bowl, preferably with the bottom slightly flat, so that the chicken wings can better absorb the seasoning.

Mince 6-7 cloves of garlic, mince 5 slices of ginger, add 2 tablespoons of light soy sauce, 1 tablespoon of cooking wine, 1 tablespoon of oyster sauce, a pinch of white pepper, and 2-3 grams of salt. The seasonings are shown in the picture. (I forgot to take a picture of these seasonings plus the oyster sauce.)

Mix well by hand (you can wear gloves).

It's best to cover it with a container to prevent your cat from stealing it. You can also put it in the refrigerator. Wait at least half an hour.

Heat a small amount of oil in a pan over low heat. Spread the oil in the pan to prevent sticking.

Put the chicken wings into the pot and stir-fry them with a spatula.

Add 1 tablespoon of dark soy sauce for color, and stir-fry for a while.

Add half a can of cola, pouring out about half a cup. You don't need too much pineapple juice, just a little less than the cola, as shown in the picture. If you like it sweet, you can pour in the whole can of cola; I don't like it too sweet, so I only added half.

Add cola and pineapple juice, then add water until it almost covers the chicken wings. Bring to a boil over high heat, then reduce the heat to low.

Don't leave the pot when the sauce has almost reduced, or it will dry out very easily.

When it's almost dry, turn off the heat and add chopped green onions.

It's done cooking! You can leave a little bit of sauce; it's delicious with rice.
Tips for the unorthodox version of cola chicken wings
This recipe can also be used to make cola chicken drumsticks. However, I still recommend cooking the chicken wings and drumsticks separately, otherwise they won't cook at the same time. The wings might be cooked through while the drumsticks are still raw; or the drumsticks might be cooked through while the wings are overcooked.
